Student Body Profile
LGA serves 11th and 12th-grade students transitioning from SAUSD comprehensive high schools. Our primary mission is credit recovery and providing a safe, alternative path to graduation.
Chapter I: Progress Report
Significant facility and curricular shifts have occurred since the last visit. LGA has focused on integrating technology and expanding support staff to meet the post-pandemic needs of our students.
Key Developments:
- Mental Health: Added a second counselor and an Outreach Consultant to support student wellness and mitigate chronic absenteeism.
- Bell Schedule: Aligned with SB 328 for an 8:30 AM start time.
- Fitness: Implementation of a new fitness area for student physical education.
- Curriculum: Successful launch of Modern Musicianship and Ethnic Studies.
Chapter II: Student Data Findings
Academic Trends
Graduation rates have shown an upward trend as students recover gaps in knowledge from distance learning. However, Homeless and Foster youth continue to require targeted interventions to close achievement gaps.
Attendance Challenges
Chronic absenteeism is identified as the primary barrier to success. Currently, 80% of the student body falls into this category, though recent data shows an 8% improvement as in-person engagement increases.
Area A: Organization
LGA leadership ensures all schoolwide goals are aligned with the SAUSD Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
Governance & Support
- SSC & ELAC: Stakeholder groups meet regularly to review school budgets and the SPSA.
- FACE Liaison: Maintains the "Cafecito" program to bridge the gap between school and parents.
- Facility Safety: Verified via Williams Act procedures and district maintenance audits.
Area B: Curriculum
LGA offers a standards-based curriculum with a focus on A-G completion and credit recovery.
Innovative Programs:
Modern Musicianship: An engaging, non-traditional music program designed to meet VAPA requirements through modern production and performance.
Apex Learning: Our primary software for credit recovery, allowing students to work at their own pace with teacher support.
Area C: Instruction
Instructional practices at LGA are centered on building relationships and data-informed strategies.
Restorative Practices:
Capturing Kids Hearts: All staff are trained in this model to build social-emotional connections and classroom "contracts" that empower students.
Technology: Every classroom is equipped with a 1:1 Chromebook cart, utilizing Canvas and Google Classroom for daily delivery.
Area D: Assessment & Accountability
LGA uses a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress and guide instructional changes.
Key Tools:
- NWEA MAP: Administered to track growth in Reading and Math.
- ELPAC: Annual assessment for English Language Learners to determine reclassification readiness.
- Formative Assessment: Frequent "checks for understanding" within Apex and traditional classrooms.
Chapter IV: Summary of Needs
Following the self-study, the staff and stakeholders identified these critical learning needs:
Chapter V: Schoolwide Action Plan
The 2024-2027 Action Plan is the roadmap for LGA's continued growth as a Model School.
Primary Goals:
- Parent Engagement: Increase participation in SSC/ELAC and parent workshops by 15%.
- Graduation Rate: Aim for a 5% year-over-year increase in students completing their requirements.
- F-Rate Reduction: Continue to reduce failing grades by implementing Tier II classroom interventions.
Monitoring is conducted through Aeries analytics and monthly Leadership Team meetings.
